I've been on commercial sets since 2011, and the Fujifilm files I end up pulling onto a screen, from the X-T5 and X-H2 to the GFX backs, are some of my favorites to work with. The catch has always been Fuji's own tethering plugins for Lightroom and Capture One, which have a long reputation for being fragile and breaking on updates.

TETHER STUDIO tethers 56 Fujifilm cameras on macOS, from the X-T5, X-H2 and X100VI to the entire GFX medium-format line. It talks to them directly over USB, with no vendor plugin in the middle, and it costs $99 once.

Short version: Plug the body into the Mac over USB-C, set Menu → Connection Setting → PC Connection Mode → USB Tether Shoot Auto, open TETHER STUDIO and click Connect. Use USB Tether Shoot Fixed if you want a locked folder path.

USB tethering: the setup for any Fujifilm

Fuji tethering lives in one menu. Set it once and the body connects every time.

1. Set PC Connection Mode

Menu → Connection Setting → PC Connection Mode → USB Tether Shoot Auto. This is the setting people miss, because out of the box the camera is in a mode built for copying files, not tethered capture. Pick USB Tether Shoot Fixed instead if you want every frame to land in one locked folder path.

2. Use a real data cable

USB-C to USB-C, straight into the Mac. The cable in the box is fine. On the GFX bodies, use the bundled USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable rather than a random third-party one, because the files are large and bandwidth matters.

3. Open TETHER STUDIO and shoot

Click Connect. The body shows up in the header in a second or two. Press Space to fire, and drive aperture, shutter and ISO from the Mac.

The GFX is a different animal

A GFX 100 II or 100S writes 100MP files, and pushing those down a USB cable live is bandwidth-heavy. Two things keep it smooth: use the USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable that shipped with the camera, and shoot lossless compressed RAW so each frame is smaller without giving up quality. On a packshot or still-life set, that is the difference between a comfortable pace and waiting on every capture.

No plugin, no vendor middleman

The usual Fuji tethering paths run through a plugin: Fuji's Tether Shooting plug-in for Lightroom, or the Fujifilm support inside Capture One. Both add a layer that tends to break when the camera firmware, the host app or macOS updates out of sync. TETHER STUDIO speaks to the body directly, so there is no plugin to keep in step. If you came here from X Acquire, the fixes and the switch are in X Acquire alternatives for Mac.

What about WiFi?

Honest answer: Fuji's wireless apps are built for sending files to a phone and basic remote control, not the responsive, fire-from-the-Mac tethering you want on set. For real Fujifilm tethering on a Mac, use USB with USB Tether Shoot Auto. That is what TETHER STUDIO uses.

Connect the body over USB-C, set Menu, Connection Setting, PC Connection Mode, USB Tether Shoot Auto, open TETHER STUDIO and click Connect. It works with the X-T5, X-H2, X-H2S, X-Pro3, X100VI and the GFX line, and it is a $99 one-time purchase.

What is the best Fujifilm tethering software for Mac?

TETHER STUDIO tethers 56 Fujifilm bodies on macOS over USB, including the X-T5, X-H2, X-H2S, X-Pro3, X100VI and the GFX 100 II, 100S and 50S II. It needs no vendor plugin, adds AI culling and client view, and costs $99 once with no subscription.

Do I need a plugin to tether a Fujifilm?

No. Fuji's tether paths through Lightroom and Capture One rely on a plugin that is known to be fragile and break on updates. TETHER STUDIO talks to the camera directly over USB, with no plugin to keep in step.

Can I tether a GFX to a Mac?

Yes. The GFX 100 II, 100S, 50S II and 50S tether over USB. Because the files reach 100MP, use the bundled USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable and shoot lossless compressed RAW to keep transfer times comfortable.

Is there an X Acquire alternative for Mac?

Yes. Fujifilm X Acquire mainly sets the save location over USB. TETHER STUDIO adds live tethered capture, AI culling, Art Director Mode and client view, and it tethers other brands too.

Can I tether Fujifilm over WiFi?

Fuji's wireless apps are built for file transfer and basic remote control, not live studio tethering. Reliable Fujifilm tethering on a Mac is over USB with USB Tether Shoot Auto.
